Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q:
How do you use the Walkabout?
    ANSWER:

Your Walkabout™ can be used in many different configurations. Click on our video on the right side of this page which demonstrates different uses. You can also review the User Guide which also comes with your Walkabout™ .

  • Q:
It looks complicated. Can I set up the Walkabout myself?
    ANSWER:

Before you use the Walkabout™, you should have a healthcare professional assist in the initial set-up. After that you may easily adjust it into any of the several configurations. The initial set-up should be the way you want to use it most of the time.

  • Q:
    How stable is the Walkabout?
    ANSWER:

The Walkabout™ provides more stability than a standard offset cane because it provides lateral (side-to-side) support and is generally used with both hands to help stabilize the user. By contrast, a cane provides no lateral support and is used with one hand. It’s made of airplane grade aluminum and high strength fiberfill nylon. A four-legged walker provides maximum support and is more stable than a cane or the Walkabout™.

  • Q:
    Will it work for me?
    ANSWER:

Perhaps. If you currently use a cane and sometimes feel you need additional support, the Walkabout™ may be very helpful. Likewise, if you often use a four-legged walker but at times it seems like it’s more than you need, perhaps the Walkabout™ might be an alternative. Always rely on the advice of your healthcare professional.

  • Q:
    Is it difficult to adjust?
    ANSWER:

No, it’s easy. The Walkabout™ has just two adjustments: the height of the legs and the width between the tips of the legs. Leg height is adjusted just like any standard offset cane. Leg width is adjusted by pulling the leg tips apart as much as necessary and then simply tightening the three knobs. See our User Guide.

  • Q:
    How big is it?
    ANSWER:

The Walkabout™ feels quite light and weighs just 2.3 pounds, slightly more than two standard offset canes. A four-legged walker, by contrast, weighs almost 3 times as much as the Walkabout™ and has a “footprint” on the floor about the size of a dining room chair. When fully closed, the Walkabout™ can fit into a double tennis racquet bag.

  • Q:
What if I don’t like it, or it isn’t right for me?
    ANSWER:

It’s important to us that our customers are satisfied. First, please take the time to give the Walkabout™ a thorough try-out; it’s new and it’s different so it can take some time to get used to – but for most people it “clicks” and they start to recognize what a difference it makes in their lives. But if you find the Walkabout™ is not right for you for any reason, return it within 30 days of purchase for a full refund of your purchase price. View our Product Return Policy.

  • Q:
    What if my Walkabout breaks?
    ANSWER:

While it’s unlikely it will break, your Walkabout™ has a Limited Lifetime Warranty. To view our Product Warranty Policy click here.

  • Q:
Am I the right size to use the Walkabout?
    ANSWER:

Because the height of the Walkabout™ is easily adjustable (just like a cane), the Walkabout™ can be used by both children and adults who are anywhere between 4′ 0″ and 6′ 2″ (122 cm to 188 cm) and up to 250 pounds (113 kgs).

  • Q:
Will Medicare reimburse for the Walkabout?
    ANSWER:

Because the Walkabout™ was just recently introduced, it is not yet eligible for reimbursement under Medicare. Since it’s a long process to obtain eligibility under Medicare, we don’t expect to receive it in the near future.

  • Q:
Where do you ship the Walkabout?
    ANSWER:

The Walkabout™ can be purchased by, and shipped to, anyone throughout the continental United States and Canada.

  • Q:
When I place an order when will it be shipped?
    ANSWER:

Orders are shipped from our warehouse Monday through Friday. Orders received by noon Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, are shipped the same day. Orders received on weekends are shipped the next business day. Customers are notified when the order is shipped and are provided a carrier tracking number.

  • Q:
Why are there only 3 knobs rather than 4 knobs?
    ANSWER:

The articluating joint is designed so that only 3 of the articulating joint connectors (the 3 with the knobs) slide when adjusting the Walkabout™. The 4th connector is permanently fixed in place and does not move, so the articulating joint “pivots” on this 4th connector during adjustment.

  • Q:
I pushed the brass button to adjust it – now I can’t find it. Why?
    ANSWER:

The legs of the Walkabout™ adjust just like any standard cane: you depress the brass button with your thumb and slide the leg to adjust the length. Sometimes you might lose sight of the brass button but it’s still there. You probably twisted the leg and it’s no longer aligned with the openings. Just slide the leg back and forth about 2 inches while slowly twisting the leg and you’ll eventually find the button. Make sure the brass button seats properly, and don’t use anything but your thumb to depress it.
